Possession Biography

Possession

This trio of African musicians joined forces in the mid-nineties to explore not only what each had to offer, but what would result from such performances. With the help and assistance of Bill Laswell, Fousseny Kouyate of Mali, Foday Musa Suso of Gambia and Aiyb Dieng of Senegal began recording together. In 1996, Possession released African Dub, its debut album on Subharmonic. The reviews for the album were numerous and all positive. The group continued to perform throughout the world, including Africa and Europe. In 2001, Possession returned to the studio to record its sophomore album. The self-titled second record was released in 2002 on RCA. The group have often been compared to other world music artists such as Deep Music and also some musical projects by Peter Gabriel. ~ Jason MacNeil, All Music Guide
