Gallows Biography

Gallows

From Keokuk, IA, the Gallows put out a couple of ordinary garage rock singles on tiny labels. The first, "Come to the Party"/"Slow Death" (1965), paired a run-of-the-mill garage/frat rock party tune with a routine bluesy instrumental. The second, "Too Many Fish in the Sea"/"Remember Mary" (1967), coupled a rock arrangement of a Motown cover with a moody original ballad by the Gallows' Dennis Chamberlain (who'd also written both sides of their debut 45). The group had a link to the somewhat more famous Iowan garage band the Gonn, as the Gonn's Craig Moore was a promoter and booking agent for the Gallows before playing in his own bands. Both sides of both of the 45s were reissued on a four-song, 7" EP on the Italian Misty Lane label. ~ Richie Unterberger, All Music Guide
