Ashes To Ashes Biography

Ashes To Ashes

Pittsburgh hard rockers Ashes to Ashes has been compared to the likes of Foo Fighters and Collective Soul, but they're originally brash and fierce when composing their own imaginative modern rock style. Bassist Ed Beeler started Ashes to Ashes in the mid-'90s after brief stints as a DJ at several Pittsburgh radio stations. Beeler, guitarist Andy Bell, and drummer Dave Campbell released their debut Two Months Two Days in 1995 and quickly became a favorite among the local music scene. The Square Root of All Evil and Reincarbonated followed shortly thereafter, and Ashes to Ashes' rise to mainstream notoriety was going to be a slow rise. Several years after the debut album, Ashes to Ashes met syndicated radio personality and former MTV Sports host Scott Farrell, in which Farrell asked the band to write a theme song for his talk radio show. Word of mouth led the band to win countless awards in and around Pittsburgh, escalating the trio further toward national recognition. They went on to play dates with Filter, Bush, and Jimmie's Chicken Shack in support of a fourth album, Plaything (2000). In fall 2000, Ashes to Ashes resurfaced to issue a fifth studio LP, Big Moving Parts. ~ MacKenzie Wilson, All Music Guide
